Your website could be actively driving customers away and you'd never know. We run SEO audits every day, and we see the same mistakes on otherwise good businesses. Here are the five most common signs your website is costing you money — and how to fix each one.

1. No Google Business Profile (or an Incomplete One)

This is the biggest one. If we search for your business name and don't find a verified GBP with complete information, photos, and recent reviews, you're invisible to the majority of local searchers. Fix: claim your profile, fill out every field, add 20+ photos, and start asking every customer for a review.

2. Single-Page Website Trying to Rank for Everything

A single "Services" page with a bullet list isn't going to rank for anything. Google needs dedicated content per topic. Fix: create one page per core service. Each page should have 500+ words of unique content, with the service name and city in the H1.

3. No Schema Markup

Schema is the code that tells Google exactly what your business does, where you are, and who you serve. Without it, Google has to guess. And Google doesn't guess well. Fix: add LocalBusiness schema to your homepage and Service schema to each service page. We include this in every website we build.

4. No City-Specific Content

If your website says "Serving all of Hampton Roads" but doesn't mention individual cities by name, you're missing out on the most important local ranking signal: geographic relevance. Fix: create a page for each city you serve. Mention landmarks, neighborhoods, and local references. Link them to your service pages.

5. Slow Mobile Performance

Over 60% of local searches happen on mobile. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load on a phone, half your visitors leave before seeing anything. Fix: compress images, enable caching, minimize code. We test every site on real mobile devices before launch.

Any one of these problems can cut your leads in half. All five together? Your website is probably doing more harm than good.
